6 Summer Travel Safety Tips

6 Summer Travel Safety Tips

22nd Jun 2023

Keep your car operating properly this summer and beyond with these helpful safety tips.

During the summer, we spend more time outdoors. This means we also spend a lot of time in our vehicles. That’s because we’re usually driving to the beach, campground, and a variety of other vacation destinations. These trips can be both adventurous and relaxing, but only if you take precautions ahead of time. To keep your car operating and on the road, check out these safety tips for summer travel.

1. Always Keep Cool When You’re on the Road

In some ways, your car’s a/c system is the most important function during the summer. It’s the hottest time of the year, after all, and no one wants to travel in a sauna. Before you hit the road, make sure your a/c system is recharged. It’s easy for most DIYers to do when they have this  FJC Polar Ice R-134a refrigerant.

If your car’s a/c system is blowing hot air, here’s what you do:

  • Locate the low-pressure port on your car.
  • Remove the port’s plastic cap.
  • Start the engine and turn your a/c to its coldest setting, with the fan on high.
  • Unscrew the gauge and hose assembly from the Arctic Freeze can.
  • Remove and discard the plastic safety disc.
  • Screw gauge assembly firmly back onto the can.
  • Shake the can well, then attach the coupler at the end of the charging hose to the low-pressure service port.
  • Gently tug the hose to make sure it’s locked on.
  • Pull the trigger to dispense Arctic Freeze into your system.
  • Take the pressure off the trigger to check the range.
  • Once you reach the target range, disconnect Arctic Freeze and screw the cap back on the port.

For a complete set of instructions, please consult the Arctic Freeze directions or the company’s YouTube channel. Be sure to wear a pair of work gloves when you recharge your car’s a/c system with Arctic Freeze.

2. Don’t Rely on Other Drivers for a Jump Start

Those other drivers might not be around, or you might not feel safe asking a stranger for help. There’s nothing wrong with feeling that way. (Better safe than sorry!) When battery issues strike, they can happen anywhere and everywhere so it’s best to be prepared. This  Jump-N-Carry jump starter is a great way to stay safe while taking trips.

This automotive device does exactly what its name implies. It jump-starts gasoline engines up to 8L and up to 6L diesel engines. This device also has USB outlets to power cell phones and other devices. It’s always good to have this Jump-N-Carry jump starter because you never know when you might need it!

3. Don’t Change Tires in the Dark

Have you ever had to change a tire at night? If you have, you know that it can be a nerve-wracking experience. You’re there on the side of the road, trying to work in the dark while cars are constantly passing you. You can only hope they see you before it’s too late. JB Tools carried a safety kit that addresses this problem.

The  STKR Concepts Flexit roadside flashlight safety combo kit is something every driver needs. It’s a flashlight that attaches to your wheel well. This device shines a light on the entire wheel area, which helps you change a tire in the dark. The light also has powerful red LED lights on the back. These alert oncoming traffic to your location. A reflective safety vest completes this kit. Other drivers’ headlights will illuminate it, making them aware of your location.

4. Remember the Importance of First Aid

A summer vacation is more than a road trip. Your travels often have a fun destination at the other end. If these destinations involve your children, there’s always the risk of your kids getting injured. Adults can get hurt on summer trips, too. That’s why we recommend packing your vehicle with this  SAS Safety first aid kit when you travel. It has an assortment of practical, single-use items to treat various injuries.

5. Tend to Your Tires

A tire with low air pressure is every driver’s nightmare. Maybe it’s because this always seems to happen when you’re nowhere near a tire shop. What do you do when you try to get into your car only to find that one or more of your tires are too low to drive? We recommend reaching for the  Slime handheld tire inflator.

There are many reasons to have this convenient, cordless tool in your vehicle. First, it’s manufactured by Slime, the company known for its  tire sealant liquid. Secondly, it’s cordless, making it the perfect tool to take on the road. Most importantly, this handheld tire inflator will quickly get your tires reinflated at the pressure you set, then automatically shut itself off.

6. Be Prepared for Anything and Everything

Most drivers have an idea of the many problems they could encounter on the road. The only thing you don’t know is which one you might experience at any given time. That’s why it’s best to be prepared for just about anything that might come your way. How do you do that? By having this  roadside emergency kit from Performance Tool.

Performance Tools stocked its kit with many of the things you’ll need to handle most roadside emergencies. It includes:

  • A 250 PSI tire inflator
  • 10GA jumper cables for most small vehicles
  • Free-standing warning triangles
  • A flashlight

  • A snap-blade knife

All of this helpful equipment fits inside a carrying case that conveniently fits in the trunk of your vehicle. As the tip says, drivers should be prepared for anything and everything that might happen on the road. This emergency kit can be a huge help with that.
